Bio

I believe that I have developed many of the characteristics and motivations for pursuing a career in teaching over the natural course of my life and through many different experiences. After high school, I joined the Marine Corp Reserves for both the physical challenges associated with being a Marine, as well as the opportunity to serve my country. My experiences in the Marines taught me about the challenges of motivating people in difficult circumstances, as well as time management. I began working with special needs children in 2001 in the public education setting. During my ten years working with special needs children I found it rewarding to see these children accomplish great things in spite of their limitations. These characteristics and attributes that I have developed throughout my life will enhance my abilities as a teacher.

I am a highly enthusiastic teaching professional with 10 years of experience in education. I have worked in elementary schools, middle school, and high school settings. In my ten years of experience I have work in regular education and special needs classrooms as an instruction aide mainly working with the special needs students. I have been able to work with the mainstream students in order to get them involved and to help out with the special needs students. I also have 7 years of experience of coaching high school wrestling and 5 years coaching high school track. I have a talent for integrating fun activities, which seek to enhance children’s fine and gross motor skills, as well as to promote physical well-being, teamwork, and sportsmanship. I effectively differentiate instruction and provide individualized support, ensuring that all students are able to succeed in the classroom. I am an active team member working with other teachers and administrators; dedicated to increasing student achievement and fostering positive relationships within the school community. I learned how to work with members of a team through playing college team sports, in the military, as a head or assistant coach, and through working with other school staff to meet the needs of the special needs students I was working with. Showing students how to live a healthy lifestyle is one of my passions. I teach students the value of being physically fit through physical activity is my goal. Teaching students how to set and reach their goals I feel is an important part of the educational experience. I have seen the importance of goals as I have set goals with my athletes and special needs students, seeing them have their confidence strengthened with knowledge learned as they have meet their goals. Teaching students the value of working cooperatively with other students through team sports and other team physical activities is a valuable life skill. I feel it is important to assist students in building their athletic skills which helps build their self-confidence. I also desire to continue teaching students the value of being physically fit and how to reach their goals. My goal as a teacher is to help students reach their full potential.

I believe the classroom is to be a place of learning. If in the classroom I feel the room should be configured for what the students will be doing. In the classroom, gym, or outside I feel students need to be interacting with the environment and other students so I try to find ways to help students interact. I feel it is important to create a good learning environment by teaching rules of how to interact with each other and the teacher daily in the class as well as for each activity.
